We missed out on the narrow band of snow that sliced through MN, WI and the UP on Saturday. Friday night the wind was northwest and dry which pretty much indicated we were going to steer the low from moving north which would of increased our snow chances if it did track more north. If the wind would of been southeast the night before, I would of been more optimistic. The cold weather did freeze out the lake and set the ground up which is a good start. Thankfully we had the snow earlier in the week to provide nice skiing on the weekend.
The transitional time of seasons always provides some nice frost action.
The lake froze over in three stages this year so some areas are solid with 3" of ice and able to walk on. We have been making a little ice on the lake and should be able to skate soon.
The skiing has been amazing, really, considering there isn't much snow. The trails we have packed out and skiing on mowed multiple times during the summer and fall. The grass isn't much over 2" long which makes skiing possible in minimal snow. There were only a few skiers to come out and check out the early snow. I think with not much snow in the urban areas around here, people think it is not possible. It is a treat having a bit more time to log in some k's before it gets real crazy around here. November skiing is much like March, its hard to describe but the sun angles and generally mild temps are two reasons.
Jake was up at Paramount Sports on Saturday for part of the afternoon, waving the flag after knocking out 20 clicks in the am. The Prairie Edge Nordic skiers helped organize a ski expo. The turnout was a bit light but nice job to those that organized in effort to spread the word on Nord.
Jon is playing Bantam A this year. The team is off to a great start with four wins in as many attempts. Big win over Brainerd on the weekend and another solid win on Sunday over Little Falls. Skill wise the team might not match up with some of the better teams but the team skates hard, hustles and a good group of kids. Match that with great parents, coaches it is going to be a solid year. They are fun to watch. Big test Thanksgiving weekend with East Grand, Moorhead and Alexandria. We have been with the same group of parents for 5-6 years and seems just like yesterday these kids were Jens age, zipping and falling around tearing it up.
Like I have said in years past, if you don't have any plans for Thanksgiving, we have plenty of room and welcome to stop by. You don't need to bring anything other than snow! Have a great one!
