We have had ice on the lake for close to two weeks but with a few warm days we stayed off. Last few nights it has dropped down in single digits and a solid 3-4" of good ice and we finally got out for some skating.
There is just a light dusting of snow on top but for the most part some nice skating on pretty smooth ice. Always fun to get some skating in before the lake is snow covered or top water sets in.
Wednesday Jake and I went to Duluth to have a tour of St Scholastica. On the way over we stopped at Shingobee, which is just west of Walker, for a run. I have skied and biked here many times and one of the hilliest trail systems in Minnesota. Never have been there with Jake. The skiing is very tight and technical and you have to be on your toes. Hope to get back there this winter.
If you are looking for a good place to do a hill workout, this is the place.
The main hill sees big time sledding action in the winter and has to be one of the best places to sled in the state. I am sure top speeds get close to 5omph and has issued a few trips to the local ER.
