May 23rd, 2012. Last day of school. Time flies by, no doubt, but the month of May seemed to really zip on by. This will be the last first/end of school picture taken in front of the flag pole. Jake graduating and off to college next year. St Scholastica is the choice and should be an exciting next step. He is excited to be part of a growing Nordic program led by Chad Samela. Congrats Jake, we are all proud of you and job nicely done.
Last weekend Jon had a tourney with the CanAm team he plays with during the summer. A group of 97 born players from northern MN and southern Ontario. The team did well and was some great hockey to watch. There were a lot of good players playing in the tournament at different age levels, ones that have been drafted in future drafts from WHL and USHL and fun to watch these kids. The Schwan Super Rink has 8 rinks and they were all covered with ice and running games all weekend long. There is a lot of snow cleaned off the ice. It is all put in bins in each rink that is melted down. I wonder if feasible if the snow was saved and preserved somehow to provide maybe a 500 meter loop for spring, summer and fall skiing. There is a lot of snow generated each day and would be interesting to see if a loop could be maintained with daily freshening.
This past winter Concordia College president Bill Craft was out to xc ski and really got into the sport. This past week a return visit saw a go at mountain biking. Loaned the Salsa hardtail and he had a blast. Really appreciate the enthusiasm and down to earth personality. Good stuff.
