A couple more pictures from Mexico. My camera died so until the new one comes in, this gets posted. The picture on the right in a way sums up the area where we were at. This year we stayed in a village called Sayulita it is a sleepy surf and fishing area about 45 min north of the Puerta Vallarta airport. On previous trips to PV, we have taken day outings to Sayulita and have always enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, authentic Mexican flavor and "Sayulitalife". This year we went down with the Wenzel family and we had to top two floors of a house. It was a pretty simple house with all the basic features and a small pool. They had a grill so a couple of nights we grilled some chicken and fresh shrimp and and made some home made salsa and put all that together on some home made flour tortillas.

Next to the house was another home that we called the "farm". They had chickens, roosters, a donkey and some other animal running around. It was their life. Every morning the roosters would get going around 4am and the other 50 or so roosters in the area would crank things up. Drove some people nuts but that just how it is. In the town pickup trucks like the one in the pic would drive around selling jugs of bottled water, cocos, fresh fruits and veggies, and propane tanks. If something needed to be done, people just did it with no signs, orange cones, etc. The people were always very friendly and kids would walk the streets at nights with no worries. People always ask if it safe. I much rather walk the streets there versus the streets in most cities.

As mentioned in previous post, Steve and I found a secluded beach and that was really nice. Not the best for surfing but good for swiming and a great place with all the boys and exploring. We rented surfboards a few days and Jon and Jake picked it up okay. I tried it a few times and did fine. More practice would be better but I had fun. Probably the only negative is the lack of ethnic restaurants like those found in PV. The best grub spot was Rollies for breakfast and the glorified Taco Stand "Taco Theos". The riding between Sayulita and Punta Mita was great. Nice road with with good rollers and a couple 5-9 min climbs. We didn't check out trails in the Madre.

The next morning back home, managed to ski. So in a 24 hour period I was able to bike, surf, ski and bike again. Fun stuff. Now it has been very nice with dry and warm weather. Jake checked out the lakeside drops this evening and said they were dry with "some dust" so it won't be long we can ride on the trails. The singletack will open up first since the snow wasn't compacted like the ski trails and quite a bit of it faces the warm sun on the south.

Today was drop dead gorgeous. Some grilling and baseball in the front yard for the first time this year. No wind and nice sunshine all day. Road bike came out for the first time this year now that the driveway has dried up. Still keeping the rides short and sweet. Nothing has been over 2 hours this year. Hopefully this week Jonell and I will get the 29'er two seater rolling.
