Jonell talked to the insurance people today. " Well Mrs. Richards, you have quite the record for hitting deer in June. Mr. Richards this year, Mrs. Richards in 2006 Mr. Richards in 2005 and Mrs. Richards in 2004". I told Jonell we should just home school the kids, grow a big garden, get a cow, a pig and some chickens and we shouldn't have to leave the house.

Yesterday I took Jack up to Bemidji for Norwegian camp with Grandma's car since ours was out. That was after Jonell and I took them in for swim lessons. I got into the clinic while they were swiming and got some xrays. No broken bones so that was good. Over to Park Rapids to pick up Grandma car #2 for Jonell so she could take that car to the cities. We got Jacks Norsk navn (Joakim) and went to his cabin.
I think this was the same cabin I stayed in when I was a camper 30 years ago.
Jack gets checked for head lice. Part of the procedure. He was clear so that was good. The guy doing it was Bjorn. The only staff member still on staff who was there when I worked there for five summers as the head cook making goat cheese meatballs, rice pudding and all the other good Norsk mat. I stopped into the kitchen to meet the head cook now. Nice guy. Lots of memories. That was when I first started mountain biking and when I started dating Jonell so lots and lots of stories. I explored a lot of named and unnamed trails around there. I remember flatting once on this trail that had grass like 4ft high and the deerflies were deadly. The best memories with Jonell were sailing on Lake Bemidji and hanging out at Bemidji State Park.
Jack gets his name tag engraved.
Jon and Jens catch a few zzzs on the ride home. Stopped quick at home to pick up Jake and cousin Marco and went to chuch to teach VBS. Whew. It was good to get home finally at 9pm. We have the same kids as last year which means we have our hands full. Its all good.
When we stopped at Jonell's parents, the boys had to check out the siding. Reminds of Jake (who will love this I am sure) the time we lived in Essex and Jonell was waiting tables at Izaak Walton Inn in the spring. The view out of the dining room was fantastic with a nice shot of Essex mountain the the chute that was still holding snow at the time. I think someone asked Jonell if anyone had skied the chute and she looks outside and sees Jake with his shorts dropped down, taking a leak and says yeah, the guy who is supposed to be watching that kid!!

They must be washing off all the boxelder bugs.
You gotta put some deer slayers on the front of your vehicles.
You know why Jeff had a DNS? he stayed in austria to do a UCI cat2 race.
Jonell got some deer whistles as a stocking present(more as a joke) but Jens took them off. This afternoon they mowed the ditches on the county roads. Word must of got out.
Yeah, I looked at the UCI results page and see he was third at that Aut race. Picked up 15 more points. Haven't heard from Mike yet.UT this weekend.
That summer I spent up in Bemidji was the best summer of my life. Biking, eating, basketball in the gym. Being alone. Listening to "Crash Test Dummies" the soundtrack from "When Harry Met Sally" and your CD of "The Farm." Good times.
