I was looking at the blog of CPF and read about his excitement for the 12 hour race this weekend. I didn't know it was the Thunderdown in the Underdown in WI. until Bruce posted it the other day. So I was thinking, I did a race in Irma. In fact it was the first bike race I took Jonell to. That was 16 years ago. Crazy. Jesrin Gaier was only 3!!! We camped out and seemed like everyone that did the race, camped. I went to the basement in the closet where the 100's of bike shirts are stored and sure enough, I still have the shirt.
Also found the shirt for the point series that year. The Irma race was the first one in the series. If you click on the image, you can see where the other venues where. Every course was top notch and different. I did all those races that year. The Banzai Vertigo Drop was this fast rolling track and the you bombed down to the bottom and did this climb straight back to the top. Was a bit like the climb at Mon Du Lac but I think the climb at Galena was harder because it was grassy. Quadna was always a blast. I rember the Swanson Bros racing there. Dough cracked a Rocky Mountain frame one year I think. Buck Hill had trails where condos now sit. Volga gave out these comy sweat shorts that had Volga on the side. Nice openlike course on the bluffhills in Iowa. Would be great to have a series like that again. Six races, four states, shoot you could do a race in ND as well. The races in MN and WI would count for the respective series so riders wouldn't have to race extra.
Making snow out west. Hard to believe but October is right around the corner. Out east there is more pressure on the amount of snow making concerning energy consumption and how it is contributing to global warming/climate change. Frost again this morning. Leaves are fallling big time now. Looks like mid October. A great time of the year.
