A great Easter vacation. It has been a while since we have just stayed home. We thought about taking a trip west but decided to stay home and enjoy nothing going on at the lodge and no trips to town all week, playing on the crust, slush, water holes then a late season snow event on Friday turning the ski conditions to about as close as you can get to mid winter and some fun sledding and towed sledding with the snowmobile, even Jonell!!

Decorating Easter eggs.

Jack and Jens helping Jonell paint. There is a reason why Jonell has the kids wear no shirts during most activities. Probably would like the same when playing in the water puddles.

Before the weekend snow, the ski trail riding was about as good as it gets.
Jake on North Loup

The ice rink is just about toast but just enough ice to skate around a bit. Jon winding out.
Snow on Friday and Saturday made the trail riding interesting. It was tough going Saturday and today but good on the bike handling. There is a lot of snow on the Sugarbush trail. A pickup went down making for some bumpy riding and a four wheeler was on when it was soft then it was cold last night otherwise it would of been just about impossible to ride. 7 miles, one hour...like riding in mud... but cleaner!
Saturday afternoon we went down to St. Cloud and Jonell's brother's place for Easter. Ryan scored tickets for the Saturday WCHA championship so Jonell, Ryan, Jake, Jon, nephew Reagan and I caught the game. Excellent game. We watched 0 college hockey games this winter until last weekend we saw quite a bit of the Mankato series and all the OT action, the St Cloud game and the CC game. Really impressed with the Gophers. Bunch of talk about fatigue but listening to the conditioning coach, they have it figured out. Hearing "the right balance of carbs and protein 30 minutes after the game" is probably foreign language to most people but made a difference I am sure. I played hockey growing up of course, played JRs when I lived in Norway and one year of college at Concordia. Was a tough year but stuck it out, didn't quit blah blah. Got a little burned out and lost interest but past few years now Jon is playing, and three of the nephews, its been fun. And the Gopher run has been exciting. They open against BC in NCAA's but anything can happen. Anyways, in St Cloud was going to try and ski and really wanted to check out Woodland but didn't work out, just as well. A little break and some good family time.

Ready to hunt Easter eggs?

No green grass this year.

Reagan and gang put a little jump at the end of the driveway making for a little bit of air time and fun times in the snow. Little Ripley got a new bike and gave it a go with the training wheels. Tipped over and went over to try it again.

With no hockey in Park Rapids when Jonell, her brother and sister grew up the kids are all into it now. Back at home and we took nephews Grant and Garrett home with us. Towed all the kids out to Suicide Hill this afternoon for some sledding fun. Crazy fast. I panicked on the first run down when they weren't controlling their speed. March has been incredible this year for winter fun.

Just before they closed Leb. Hills the trail was just like that, riding a tire track the whole way,so many people riding it.Winter still trying to hold on,pretty crazy.Throwing everyone off.Hard to get consistant riding in,been few & far between.Eric & I were talking,"Watch it'll go from this to 60's in a week".
Be blessed!

I have yet to ride on any pavement this year. Any interest in racing at Snowflake on Saturday? If you go, let me know and if I can work it out, I might go. We can go for a ride afterwards for a cool down.

As much as I would of loved to ,I can't.Eric already "summerized" the skis.Plus the roads down here are dry, probably do some good rides this weekend, depending on weather.Oh...by the way, made my own roller skis.Really easy to make, since I work at a machine shop, only took me about an hour,.Going to try to mix in some of that in this year during bike season.I'll do more as skiing season gets close.Really works on the form & balance.Help to maintain upper body & strength. Also nice to use different muscles once & while, give biking muscles a break. My goal is to stay more fresh this year,by doing some cross training now & then.Till then,BE BLESSED!
