We pulled off the largest event we have done at Maplelag ever the past four days. The staff really stepped it off a notch and did an incredible job, feeding up to 450 at one point for a couple of meals and 330ish for the others. Pulled out of the wood work were retired Callaway school cooks, Strawberry Store cafe cooks, even Jonell and Mary's hair therapy management specialist came out to help. Sunday was probably the busiest day, starting at 5:30am and wrapping up around midnight, resetting 430 chairs after breaking them down before supper. Wow, lots of moving and hauling. Strength endurance?!?! Super nice, friendly people. Expected the unexpected but amazingly it was all smooth sailing. There were a lot of "nice old ladies" that slept in top bunks...they were troopers.

The MN State President ofPEO is a long time guest of Maplelag. Her son Rolf was here. He raced Nordic at Fergus Falls growing up where I got to know him pretty good having races here and what not. He then moved west for school, got into cycling and had a great year last year with the Tokyo Joe road team. One of his best races was the Mt Evans hill climb which was won by Tom Danielson. Rolf was fourth. Rolf is riding for Team Legacy this year and is scheduled to race in the Nature Valley Gran Prix. Would be fun to watch him among Minnesota's finest if it worked out.
Lars came over this evening and he, Jake and I snuck in a few laps on the MNSCS course before the t storm action. When we first started riding it was completely still then thunder and lightning and a few sprinkles. The rocks and roots were pretty slippery so handling was key. It was kind of eerie riding at first as the thunder would just crack and seem to drag on. I thought it was pretty cool. Lars and I couldn't believe a week ago exactly we were skiing in mid winter conditions. Crazy. The last ten minutes it opened up big time and we got pretty wet but not muddy really. Fun ride. Was 75 when we started and around 50 at the end, wind switching directions middle of the ride.
First lakeside drops.

The Bente's Bump section always kicks my butt early in the year. I rode down first and turned my wheel and went otb and crashed hard. Jake rode over the rocks and cleaned it and Lars went left and cleaned it. We need to tweak this section a bit but otherwise the riding was just about perfect. Sight lines are so much different know than late summer/early fall.

Hello Jay,
Bente's Bump - when I rode it with Jake two weeks ago he ripped right down the middle. You pointed the line out to me last year. Its there, you just need the cahonies to hit it.

One more thing, two weeks ago I did not have the cahonies and went left. Cheers!

We missed you Steve. First lap I thought I had the cahonies but pressed the panic button when I hit a rock and was down. Second lap I went left. Next time....
