Can't remember the last time we had such a nice run of weather this late into Fall. Sunny days for 8 days straight. Skiing early in the week, little hockey in the middle and some good mountain biking yesterday and today and even a quick camping trip with some duck hunting.... about as good as it gets. Today was unreal. Pretty much took it easy all day with a hour and a half bike ride and yard cleanup the only major things accomplished. First weekend with no guests at the resort since the Spring, really.

With deer hunting next weekend, the riding will shut down pretty soon unless we head out at night.

Along the lake today was perfect. I probably ridden this section a couple hundred times and could of done it over and over today. With all the leaves down, the sight lines are awesome.

Jonell has had all the patience in the world on the lawn cleanup and my slacking. This afternoon we finished things up, putting all the deck stuff away except the two loungers on top. Let it snow.

Jon heading down the lake for a mile trip to Carlene's to watch the Vikings. Way too nice outside to watch boob tube but Jon had a nice voyage nonetheless.

Halloween night we opted for a change of pace from the usual. Jon was at a friends house, Jake was cougar hunting so Jack, Jens and Jonell and I drove into the woods, making way to the edge of Island Lake. Always good to bring the saw along. Beavers have been super busy, crazy busy. Feasting on tons of trees like clear cutting.

Getting late but loaded up the old row boat and headed out to the Island on Island lake.

Jack at the front. Could not ask for a better evening to sleep under the stars.

"I slept where last night?" Jonell was a trooper. Sleeping out in the open on frozen ground.

Hot dogs and smores before sunrise.

Sat in the blind after breakfast, watching the sun come up and all the waterfowl zip around..... the best part of duck hunting. I bailed on pulling the trigger, just enjoyed watching everything. I could care less if I bag any ducks although I was hoping to get at least one, clean it up and cook it over the fire.

We have talked about putting a small cabin on the island. Nothing fancy. Just a wood stove and four walls. Use it for hunting in the Fall and in the winter folks could ski the 5km trek and spend the weekend or something.

Jack and Jens exploring the island.
Jake hooked up with the
Wenzels Saturday night and went to Milaca. Some interesting comments and observations from Jake on the cross scene. Jake said the best part of the trip was hanging out with the Wenzels. Mighty fine folks they are.

I wish I had more time to go up north. School keeps me from going up now days. We used to go quite often in the fall to hunt tree rats and grouse when I was younger. All the cousins and uncles had 4 wheelers so we'd go blazing through the swamps and trails. Good memories for the kids. I'm going up for opener weekend and that's it this year. I love the pictures. Are you going to try and make State Cross this year? Nice that its the same day as MNSCS awards.
Great camping trip Jay. Jonell is a trooper, not sure I could get Kriston to sleep under the stars.
Jake was great to have along. The conversations between the boys when they do not think you are listening are super funny.
The forecast looks promising. Lets hope that we are skiing this weekend.
Eric: The weekend of State CX and MNSCS also has series directors meeting. Jon has two games that weekend, Jake has function, National race directors meeting at Colorado Springs and grooming equipment to pick up in West Yellowstone. Not sure how it will all play out. Jon's games top of the list though. Good luck this weekend and nice speed skating article.
Steve: I will keep you posted on the skiability for sure. Thanks again.
Sounds like you need a private jet. I'm sure you could clear yourself out a landing strip.
