Mother Nature is still dealing. I like the snow that fell this afternoon. I think I will hold those cards and draw 2 for the overnight deal. My old friend Mark Morrissey who I met at Izaak Walton and worked one winter together called it best "like a bowl of cream of wheat with milk poured on top" Thinking of Mark as he prepares the course for Finnlandia.

Guests heading out in the snow fall, slithering around on the fresh.

Yesterday I was grinding up ice and today I was pushing slop. The water had no where to go.
I don't use the Bobcat much in the winter since we contract out the plowing for our driveway but once or twice a year, usually in middle or late March I have to push the slop off. Doing it while the snow was coming down was a lot better than having rain. A snow bucket would probably work better but then I couldn't fit between certain rocks and trees. Works just fine. Posted earlier that we didn't plow our little driveway at all this year. Jonell asked what I am going to do about the 8" deep ruts. I say just pretend you are at Valleyfair driving those rail cars and let the ruts guide you through.

The school district pulled an interesting one today. School on time. Take the kids out, no bus after 15 minutes. Turn on radio and hear our bus is 30 min late. Then 30 minutes later, they say no bus travel on gravel roads because of solid ice so that meant we take the kids to school. We didn't want to have them miss a day since they will all go to the range to watch Jake ski at state. Get a call 1 hour before school is out and they still say no bus travel on gravel roads but would drop any kids off on the pavement. That meant a 3 1/2 mile jaunt for our kids so instead of that fishy deal, go back in to pick up kids. Someone ran over the sign at school. What a zoo picking up the kids.
The driver of the tow truck must of learned how to drive in Mexico. Pass in a no passing zone on a curve with sloppy roads to boot. Halfway between here and DL there is 3" of mush on the road. It will freeze tonight and the roads will be a basket case. I wonder if the county engineer and superintendent know that.

The next five days are going to be crazy. Try and get the trails in tip top shape the next two days, get over to Mesabi for state on Friday, Thurs evening most likely, and over to Thief River Falls Friday night (Jonell anyways) for Jon's tourney with first game starting at 8am on Saturday. Going to be fun.
