Great day at Sea Otter. Gorgeous weather. Anything that has to do with bikes is here. Dirt jump track, pump track, slopestyle, dual, downhill, short track, xc, trials, tandems, road races, road crits. Was getting hot then breeze off the ocean starting pushing through making for a dandy day.
Looking towards expo stuff with dirt jump track in front.
Small field for Jakes race but some very tough, hard racing. First three guys were U23 riders from South Africa and were drilling it. I told Jake you don't come over from SA just to ride, you come to kick some ass. Other top Jrs in the mix making for some hard racing. Jake was happy with how things went and getting that first race out of the year. The SA guys ended up racing in the Pro race and placed in the 30's.
One of the SA guys. Think this was Max. Fun talking to him. Really cool accent. He goes from speaking British to Afrikans.
The Pro race had close to 100 starters. With a tight and technical course on tap, things got strung out very quick and by the time I started the climb, the field was halfway around.
Stander, Sauser and Wells out in front as the Pro road crit was going on the race track. Event enjoying the presence of Levi Lepheimer.
Chris Peariso. Other Midwest sightings include Jenna, Bender and TJ Woodruff. Peariso and Jenna racing today.
Wells warming up.
Pretty much called up last but worked my way up into the upper 50's before getting pulled. Legs felt pretty good and was ready to keep it rolling but that was it. Pretty much impossible to move up much. Had fun while I was out there. Opened up the legs for tomorrow which is going to be a hard race. Rode the full sus and was the ticket for the bumpy course. Racing that tomorrow.
Got co2?
These guys were flying. Levi in front of this chase group I believe.
Haven't seen camping action like this since We Fest. Replace bikes for beer, for the most part.
Wells surrounded after the win.
Lemon tree in near our hotel room. Thought it was a grapefruit at first it was so large but peeled it, took a bit and pretty bitter. For a lemon though, wow.
Lots of cool shrubbery/trees and flowers blooming like crazy.
