Hard to top days like today. Seems like the wind has been blowing like crazy from one direction or the other this Spring. Not many rides on the road this year but this afternoon was about as good as it gets.
Rolling along lakeside at dusk after first drop. With a full plate of wedding activity here at the resort this past weekend, no racing for me at Afton. Jake got a ride down with Jeremy from Paramount Sports on Saturday, pre-rode and spent the night with Per and Margie Nelsons. Per and Margie have always come up to help with the high school Nordic ski camps in the winter. Super nice people. Big thanks to those folks. Jake blew a hole in his tire and had issues getting rolling again so had to pull the plug at Afton.
Jonell on the move getting things done. "Ask Jonell" or "where is Jonell" is pretty much the phrase on Saturday. Probably should take the results down from last years Laddies Loppet.
We have had a lot of new riders hit the mtb course this Spring. Overall we have had more riders than I can ever remember out riding which is great to see. The two guys to the right came out for the first time on Saturday and were all fired up loaded with enthusiasm. Just a riot. Tony, on the left, was shooting the dirt with them afterwards who was in attendance for the wedding. They were out on course for about 4-5 hours, riding stuff over and over trying to get it dialed in. Tony did a great job desiging the new Maplelag kits this year. I started a team website I hope to update throughout the season.
One of the guys I played hockey with in high school, Matt Ahles, was here for the wedding and was doing one timers with Jon for over a hour, into the dark. Got the bonfire going, went to the lodge, back to make sure kids were settling down but they were down at the bonfire talking hockey. Jens and Jon did a nice job helping out on Saturday. Jens was rolling through the dining room, 30 tables and remembering where he was taking serving dishes from like a Pro.
We have had a few cedar waxwings this Spring but last night there were about a dozen eating the last remaining buds on the snow trees. They are fun birds to watch and listen to. Beautiful birds with a touch of orange and little red.
