The kids had Tuesday off this week for Presidents weekend. Jake and I had dentist appointments in Park Rapids but I wanted to try and do something with each of them since they were off from school after the early morning chores and what not.

Jens waking up with a good hair day. Lots of nights falling asleep with the coat and hat on. Playing and sleeping hard.

Jens has discovered skate skiing the past few weeks. He has his own little loop he does over and over. On the weekends he is getting out 4-5 times on his own and today skied the entire Skaters Waltz loop with some lodge guests. His latest is to play hockey until he is old enough to be on the ski team. Sounds good to me. Having fun at whatever is what it is all about. Jens said it would be "sick if he went to state and beat Jack Hinkens" The state meet left a sounding impression on Jens.

Jon joined in after skiing earlier with Freddie and Franklin from Kentucky.

The goat ranch road got polished from the wind over the weekend and the sun put on a finishing touch. It basically is a ice skating rink so I took Jon to the end and he skated down the long hill. Shot a video on the camera and was uploaded but now it is lost. Jon skated back up the hill for Rocky type workout and back down and up a few times.
After Jake and I came through in the clear at the dentists, we planned on skiing with the JibSkates somewhere. We were going to hit up Shingobee and possibly Kabekona corner but opted to head back west and check out the Toad or Detroit Mountain areas. I have been to the top of Toad Mountain once. Back in college a friend of mine and I skied up to the top and took some turns on the runs they they had cleared out for a possible ski area but lack of finacial backing and areas already operating in Park Rapids, Bemidji and Detroit Lakes made it tough to happen. To get Detroit Mountain running again, it might take 4-5 million.
Anyways, we found a road near there that climbed up a bit. Laughable by western standards but you don't need to be out west to have some fun.
We found a nice bank that looked good to Jake to build a small jump. I went down a few times with no big issue but when Jake busted out the shovel, I went into photography mode.
Jake launching.
A awesome day with sun blasting, perfect temps and no wind.
Couple face plants of course.
The old man catching a little air. There was a long driveway that went to the top so we skied up than launched off a snow drift.
That night hooked up with Jack for some skating on the rink.

Even though the day ended with a little blood from Jens taking a stick in the mouth, it was pretty much awesome.

Love the Jens quote! Jake took care of that in the Skate. Good times.
