This past weekend Jon played in the Pepsi Cup with the Midwest Ice Hogs in Fargo/Moorhead.
It is the biggest summer tourney he plays in as far as the quality of teams. One of the four teams they had to play in pool play was the Manitoba Moose. The Moose have a tryout where up to 200 players will try out. Mostly from the Winnipeg area but the team only had 3-4 players from Winnipeg actually. The Moose have never won the tourney but have played in the Championship game the last three years I believe. The Moose was the fourth game. They won their first three games and against the Moose, paying at 7:30am, they tied 1-1. Since they had identical records, they played again in the afternoon for the Championship. The Moose had the #1 seed since they had +10 goals and the Hogs had +6.

The championship game was fantastic game, wrapping up a great tourney. After falling behind 0-1, the Hogs came back to score two goals and sealed the deal with a empty netter in the closing seconds. They were the only US team to win their division out of the three other age brackets. Some of the Moose parents took the loss pretty hard after some post game shenanigans and was pretty much classic hockey parent drama. Jake was right next to me when it was happening and it was good stuff for sure. The team is riding a 18 game unbeaten streak going back to the Alex tourney last July. Great group of kids, parents and we feel very fortunate to be a part of this group and great opportunity for Jon.
Coach Carey has done a fantastic job getting the most out of the kids and bringing the kids coming from Moorhead, West Fargo, Crookston, Wadena and Alexandria to play like a well oiled machine. He made a promise to the kids if they won the tourney, he would wear Hanna Montana jammies at the final tournament. He gave them a teaser in the championship wearing a Miley Cyrus shirt and exposed it more after each goal.
We commuted back and forth each day, putting on close to 500 miles over the weekend but Jon stayed with one of his team mates which was real nice for the early morning games and relaxing in between games.
On the way home I thought we would stop in Callaway to see if they were dedicating the new wind turbine for the White Earth Native Harvest building but it was quiet. The mill wasn't moving.

As we turned on the goat ranch road there was a car parked so I stopped to see if they needed directions or had troubles but the lady said she didn't want to text and drive. Good form. She also said she asked if we had noticed any of the pink slippers in the ditches because she hadn't seen anything like it before and "darn near pooped my pants".
