Jake and Jens and friend Ethan B went down to St Cloud to race in the final race in the MN MTB Series. Jens raced kids comp taking 4th. Jens loved the course and is probably the best kids comp course in the state. Jake raced to a 6th place finish in Expert after running in the top three until the last lap. Jake was feeling great and was stoked to drop Brendan Moore in the singletrack and hang and dice it up with the O Bros (yes, Brendan raced singlespeed state champs earlier in the day and I guess had some de rail issues but Jake said he crashed once as well trying to drink on a rocky section). All good. I appreciate the likes of Brendan, O Bros, Doug and other top Elites providing encouragement and motivation for Jake. It doesn't happen in other sports.Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Last weekend the Fall color hit the peak and Saturday and Sunday were incredible. One of the best times of the year to be at Maplelag. Full plate on the weekend but even if the window was open to venture out, its hard to leave with conditions like they are now. Ranks up with the days in middle of February when 20 degrees, sunshine, fresh snow/ grooming and frost touching the trees.
Out on the trail Saturday afternoon. Today is Wednesday and amazing how many leaves have come down since weekend. I always get a kick out of when the experts say when our Fall peak is supposed to be and reading articles in the paper telling people to go here or there when the peak has past. The frost two weeks ago has moved things along. Looks more like October 9th than September 29th.

Jake and Jens stuck around until Sunday, staying with the relatives in St Cloud and attended Kyia's retirement party that night. Sunday raced Cross taking first in Cat 3 as Jens, and friends Jess and Lydia watched.
The singletrack is getting leafy but the colors were incredible over the weekend. Snuck out for a few rides. Hadn't been on the Loppet loop in a few weeks since been trying to ride in the new singletrack on Twin lakes.
Monday the kids did not have school so we went on our annual sleep under the moon and stars as a whole family Sunday night, going to the northeast side of north twin just east of our house! Carlos and yoda dog came along too. Always plenty of laughs to go around.
Most exciting thing to happen was a porcupine passing by at 4am. Woke up Carlos who was barking at it. Went up to have a moonlight snack and was there til sun came up. Decided to come down around 9am and that was the time we decided would be good to go as we didn't want Carlos to get a face full. It went back up the tree though when I got close to get some pics, ducking the quills it was shooting at me.
Yes, we love you Carlos.

Jack walking home from school. Happy trails!
