One of the highlights of the ski season at Maplelag is hosting the DL Invitational ski meet.
It's great to see kids of Northwest MN off from school for the day skiing and having fun in the woods. The weather this year was pretty much perfect. A bit crisp in the morning but the sun was out in full force with no wind, frost on the trees making for doesn't get any better conditions.

Jake out in front in the classic race en route to taking the win. The tracks groomed up nice and were solid and firm. Skate course was solid but slow from the windblown snow worked over and frost that had fallen on top.
Summer Ellefson striding to first place.
Kids building something with a snow pile.
Deer River girls spectating and throwing snow on the tree for some reason.
The JR High races are some of the best to watch.
Sledding in the back bowl.
Brainerd kid goofing around.
Catching some air.
It was good talking to the coaches who battled the snow last weekend grooming up their training grounds. I don't know too many coaches who don't groom the trail systems the kids train on. Nordic ski coaches have to cover the bases like none other with weather, waxing, technique etc. to manage. Nicely done.
