Thursday night the temp dropped down nicely to -30. Full moon, no wind, perfect conditions for a night ski. The whole family got out for a outing around Sap Run. The wind earlier in the day and fine grained snow made for very slow conditions but beautiful to be out.

Last weekend was race #5 and 6 in the Jr Olympic Qualifier races. Jake, Jack and I made the trip down on Friday after school. Jens had his first game at Alex and Jon had a couple of games so it was non stop action on the weekend.
We stopped in Wadena on the way down to ski at Blacks Grove. (The photos I took from the weekend are no longer as the laptop crashed and I did a rare accidental delete of photos from Sunday.) Anyways, a great ski and fun 9km trail system.

After the ski we stopped at Harvest Thyme where Jack enjoyed the adjacent book store and we replenished and fueled on some excellent local fare. Highly recommend it. Thanks Denny for the tip.

It was strange spending the weekend in the cities and hard to relax until mid day Saturday. With snow falling all day Friday, trying to get on top of the grooming was a bit nuts before heading out but Lee came in later to clean things up and worked out nicely. Thanks to uncle TJ and tanta Val for putting us up for the weekend. Great hospitality and nice to stay in a familiar place making it feel more like a local race. Able to catch nephew Grant's hockey game as well. Always fun watching the nephews and nieces do their thing. And thanks to the Maplelag crew covering nicely at home.
Early start on Sunday made it possible to get back in time to catch Jon's third game on the weekend. The team had a very nice come from behind win over Little Falls. Down 1-4 with 3:22 to play, they scored three goals and the winner in OT to take three wins on the weekend. Team is starting to come around and should be an exciting finish to the season.

Boots made the blog so better comment. It has been a tough winter for Boots. After a record kill of mice over the summer and fall, the snow has covered all the secret hiding spots and pretty much shut down outside action for Boots. Boots stares out the window gazing mindlessly. He knocks stuff over all the time, bored. Need to send him on the next flight to Sayulita, Mexico and he can go on a rodent control mission.
