February starting out awesome like it usually does. Best month of the year. The snow continues to pile up in the woods and everywhere else. Getting out skiing a bit more with weather and snow sorting out.
Skiing on Roy's Run end of last week. Beautiful day. Neighbor to the north has a pretty much perfect bushwhacked trail to both Roy's and North Loup from his cabin on Big Sugarbush. Nice having a neighbor thats a player vs a sledhead I have to chase off the trails. I hoped on his track and it was solid and firm. Poles sunk down a foot or so. Good stuff.
Jonell and I went up to Fargo last week for a one day vacation. Nice time. Good break. Snow whispering across the fields with no ditch to fill in to since it socked in like a month ago. Like driving across the prairie like it is now, feels like you are on a big lake, above tree line or on top of a glacier. Like I said before, the right melt freeze cycle will put ton of areas in great crust cruising condition. A ski from Hitterdal to Maplelag is on the list of crust cruises to do if possible.
Snow removal in between the ditches on Hiway 10. Pushing it on the road and clearing it away.
Pushing up a drift and clearing away from the road.
The worst part of winter. Yes, roads are bad but we all could slow down and take it easy which would help. Myself included. Seems like vehicles most common in ditch are 4 x 4 pickups that can climb skyscapers and jump over tall buildings.
No snow removal on our deck. Jack sliding down on the steps.
The weekend past definitely the warmest of the season. We had a big cancellation with the ND Natl guard pulling out a month out. Always do business on a handshake agreement when we can and avoid paperwork as much as possible. Frustrating when it doesn't go both ways. Tried to rebook as many rooms as we could but tough to do this late in the game. Thanks to Steve and Kriston Wenzel helping out bringing a group of friends. Hooked up with Steve on Sunday at the tail end of his fourth ski session. North end of Bullhead, one of my favorite places on the trail system. Good to connect and catch up a bit on teenager parenting and what not.
Steve with Craig Lemieux at the tail end of logging 58km over two days. Nicely done.
Sunday afternoon went skiing with Jens and across the goat ranch road for the first time for him. We skied skaters extension. Showed Jens how to cross just taking one ski off. He did awesome for first time.
Jens skied the entire skaters waltz earlier in the day and than did another 6km with me.
Foreign staff worker Angel from Chile kept the fire going in the lake sauna through the afternoon so we joined him for a plunge. First time jumping in this year. Usually try to do it a couple times. Feel like a million bucks post plunge.
Angel and John have done a fantastic job so far this season. Angel jumped on Jensy's bike and was zipping around. Impressed with the handling skills.
Jonell set with threads for CanAM summer hockey. Thanks to Maplelag guests McBeans from the north.
