Last week we planted around 1000 trees at Maplelag. Like we have the past 5 years, the mother/daughter team of Kira and Ann Reoh has come to help plant. Since my parents moved here, we have planted over 100,000 pine seedlings. Since I was 12 or 13, I have been planting in the Spring and it is pretty neat to see the trees that have skyrocketed to grow 20-30 feet high from seedlings around 6" high. The project they came from they planted 5000 trees. The project they were going to they were to plant 12,000 trees. On a good day, they can knock out 3000 and a good week around 13,000. That's a lot of trees. All the trees are mostly seedlings and hand planted with their "digger". The are from Missouri and travel around the Midwest. Always impressed by their work.

The mountain bike trails have finally dried up other than the low spots holding water. For the first time I am no longer taking the right line, the winter settling and what not as turned this in to a Mount Snow like feature.

The track has changed over the years with racing and riding. Some sections have widened out from people not wanting to ride the rocks or roots. When possible, I try to restore the track to its original line and make it "harder". Everyone seems to be either riding a full sus or 29er, so it only makes sense, right? Ha!

The deer ticks are out in full force. I walked five minutes in the woods and had 3 on me. It has been two years now since I was bit by a tick that carried Lyme. (Assuming it was the tick I took off May of 2009, might have been previous summer but symptoms didn't show up until June of 2009) I definitely have been feeling better than I have since picking up the "disease". I have been riding a lot more, logging some of the longest and hardest rides since 09. Nothing has been over 2 hours really and up to 1 hour of race pace. Not sure if and when I might race this summer. Just glade to be riding and feeling more like normal and not waking up in the middle of the night wondering if I am going to make it to the morning. The first few months were brutal. It is Jake's last year of racing JRs so number one objective on the racing front is to provide as much support as possible and be a good training partner when we can ride together. Plus keeping dibs on the team has been fun and proud and appreciative everyone waving the flag.
Found a dead porcupine near the Twin Lakes singletrack last week. Not sure how it died. Either it was shot, diseased or poisoned by Steve Gromatka when he was here during winter break.
The adapted pets. Sometimes it is a three ring circus with these yardbirds, plus two collies. Mostly all good.

The crazy warm day on Tuesday really kicked Spring in to gear. All the migrating little birds came in with full force and they are fun to watch at the feeders. With the loons calling regularly at night and the morning and the birds chirping full blast, pretty much awesome.
