The past 6 or 7 years, the kids have always had the last Monday of September off from school. Each of those years we have gone out camping the night before to sleep under the stars. We had a group function at the resort that ran into the evening this past Sunday but we still went out in the dark to the north end of north twin lakes, keeping tradition, and enjoyed a beautiful evening and next morning in the woods.

It should be illegal to take a pug in to the woods. The other rule is no cell phones etc but someone snuck one in. Busted. Not happy.
Jack and I on breakfast duty.
Jonell managed to keep the mug level after tipping back with Jens.
Solid ground for a solid night of sleep?!?

Goofing around. Amazing no trips to ER with deer fort climbing, ax swinging and walking around with sticks in the dark.
There was a birch that had lost its top but the bottom part was still solid and Jon got it down for future firewood after chopping for a hour.

Over the weekend we had a group at the resort but I was able to take Jake to St. Cloud for the final race in the Minnesota series. It was a bigger deal to me than Jake probably, being it was his last race as a JR during his Sr year of school. I should of raced but I wanted to watch instead since there won't be many more times like this. I made a video documenting the action. Good to see Kris and Kyia and their new baby. The first race Jonell and I took Jake to 18 yrs ago, he was only four weeks old, heading to the north shore to race in the Sawtooth Challenge out of Grand Marais. Anyways, probably the most fun I've had at a race this year, running around watching and riding a lap afterwards.

It think the peak of fall color tops all other years, this year. Mainly because we have had no big wind or rain and very indian summer like weather. Incredible conditions in the woods.

Thanks for the comments. Great job with the Singletrack escape Kyia and congrats on a very fine season John. Drop me a line next time you are rolling the lines between the forest and prairie.
