Last week I was driving down the driveway and saw "Kohlepp's pond" had been cleared off. I thought maybe the neighbors that live off the driveway were going to skate on the pond. The next day a different neighbo,r friend of the driveway neighbor, had set up a wood splitting station. Not having seen this set up before, had to investigate and post.
There were some ash and oak trees that recently kicked the bucket and prime firewood. He cut the trees and pulled them to the pond, cut up in to blocks and had the wood splitter on the pond to split.
He had a nice little fire going just feet away! There are certain times of years you can hear chainsaws through the woods, miles away, mostly late fall and early spring which is prime firewood cutting season. No bugs, good temps and easy access in the woods is best time to cut firewood. This year, the firewood cutting season seems to have extended an extra month or so. With 70km of trails at Maplelag, there isn't probably a week that goes by we aren't cutting some wood.
