At the Border

It's taken a while to get this post published with things about as busy as it gets but it is all good... Jon had VFW tournament in Warroad two weekends ago so I went up the second day to catch the action. To me, this was a big tourney being single class featuring the original section 8 schools which were the same as when I played high school hockey. The tourney didn't end out so well and got very chippy the last game but such is the game of hockey. Sunday morning I got out early to check out Zippel Bay State Park in Williams which is east of Warroad and right on Lake of the Woods. The morning was absolutely incredible with everything frosted. I wasn't prepared for the -10 temps which forced me to ski hard but what an incredible morning.
I ventured down to the lake and was able to ski on top of the drifts....for a while... than broke through. There was absolutely no wind and conditions were surreal.

This is what happens when refs let a game get out of hand with 14 and 15 year olds on the ice.

We were fortunate to stay with Grandma Judy's relatives and very nice hospitality.
I knew Jonell would get a kick out of these.
Jens and his team played in the Squirt International tournament out of Fargo which is the largest tourney in the world for hockey. 128 teams from all over the country and Canada. Detroit Lakes hosted games on Friday including two for Jens which was nice for catching the action. Probably the biggest deal for a lot of kids is trading pins. It gets pretty intense with certain pins from certain associations being the most sought after.

Jens dinged his finger in the second game, thought it was broken so Jonell took him to the urgent care with two other team mates. Jonell gets the award for super mom last month. Over two hours in the waiting room.

The highlight for Jenseys team was beating Roseau in the shootout. After five skaters the score was still tied and Jens went and sealed the deal.

Jack learning how to "pan" fry walleye. Jack has become a good cook and still making the home made soups from scratch.
