The last weekend of fall hockey ended for Jon last weekend. Even though it was a lot of trips to to the cities, the first games usually started Saturday afternoon with a late evening game that night than a early morning Sunday game making for a lot of hockey in a short amount of time. All game were played at Eagan and just over 5 minutes from the Horsager Hotel. Jonell's sister Val and her husband TJ and sons Grant and Garrett were gracious to have open rooms every trip down. Beats staying in a hotel and TJ cooked up some good eats including a spaghetti meatball dinner I'm still thinking about. Thanks for the hospitality.
The last weekend I took Jon down and in between games I was hoping to sneak a ride in at Lebanon but the trails were closed. I did manage to ride their the first time back in September when the heat index was around 100 and was panting like a dog. I had a little more time and was hoping to ride the fun flowing trail system a couple times. I walked in for a trail inspection, finding a nice tacky and grippy surface but moments later rain/sleet paced through which would of made for some good fun but bad form on a trail system visited by 100's of riders.
There are some great gravel segment south of their house and despite off and on rain showers, found some great rolling. A nice contrast from suburbia to farm fields and country side. Finally got some new shifters after 4 years.
Earlier this fall construction was going on nearby their house. A private golf course was wiped out for future housing development. At first it looked like a giant dirt jump track but I am sure the next time we make it to the cities, which will probably be next spring, it will look completely different.
It was a great fall season. Jon finished the season as the top goal scorer going in to the last weekend. Adding the games he played in the NAHL showcase, was close to the number of games he will play in the hs season. Nice tuneup before the school season begins. Great kids, nice parents and good hockey. The team really got along well and all our focused on playing hockey and having fun with basically no drama.
