Back to Blogging

Blog posts have been lacking. It has been a very busy winter. Probably busier than usual as a result of being short staffed in the ski department and not having any help grooming this year.

The wind has been relentless, drifting the lake trails like I have not seen before. Seems like there hasn't been a week without major drifting. Many hours spent shoveling a path just to get through on the snowmobile groomed singletrack classic. Always tell myself better to have this situation than shoveling from the lake on to the trail and chopping ice in the parking lot.
Even the Pisten Bully has been put to the test, taking on the big drifts.

Overall, the skiing has been fantastic. Haven't been skate skiing much with the cold temps as the classic skiing has been phenomenal.
The boys had another great winter season, skiing for St Scholastica as a true sophmore. Caught Jake's race at Mt Itasca. He had a solid consistent year and stayed healthy. Utmost respect for ski racers training and racing in one of the coldest winters on record.
Jon had a good first year playing high school as a sophmore. The team had an exciting first playoff game way up in Hallock, knocking off the 5th seed and a match with #1 ranked East Grand Forks and the beautiful Ralph Engelstad arena in TRF.

The cold and stormy weather made it challenging for the Nordic ski teams this year with a few meets cancelled. Jack, as a 8th grader, skied varsity the last few meets, ending the season here at Maplelag with his best race of the season in the Section 8 Nordic ski championships.

Jens in 5th grade had a fun second year of squirt hockey. The team really got along well and came on strong end of the years. Getting high fives from the bro and hs team members before final home game in Fargo squirt intl squirt tourney.

The ice has been great on the back rink. Our lone foreign worker, Nairia has really gotten in to hockey and had some fun one day with Jens and I.
We have caught a couple of the Section playoff games with my dad coming along. Up in Hallock, they had a photo of the team that made it to state from Hallock and played the Edina team my dad played for in 1957.
Jonell took a trip to AZ with her sister and mom for Judy's 70th birthday which will guarantee 6 more weeks of winter. HA!
Jonell and Nairia with Jake at the popular ice falls near Bayfield on a recent trip visiting Jake.

March is upon us, the best month of the year imo and I've been skiing daily with a goal to ski every day this month, regardless of weather and conditions. This is the third year now of (30daysofskiing) and started a blog, updating daily with some other day highlights if interested. For those that love and want winter to extend, think snow. For those ready to ride and enjoy warmer temps, think spring! All good.
