Last week Jack went to a painting camp with Grandma. Yes, we can dig it! Nice job Jack!
The next story is a bit tougher to talk about.......Jake was splitting wood on Saturday, doing nice work on a pile of birch, maple and oak logs my dad had cut up and we hauled in. Jake had been splitting for a few weeks already. I was not there, but according to Jake, a piece of wood fell off "funny" and he tried to save it but his left pointer finger got caught and he cut off from the middle joint.
When Jake came in after the accident,he was screaming, naturally. Jonell quickly got to action. I was out in the woods with my dad checking out trees we were going to cut in the future that were sick or dying. I heard the horn honk and wasn't able to pick up the call from Jens and heading in I knew something wasn't right. Jonell and I took Jake in but first Jonell had Jon go get Jake's finger. It was a tough task for Jon and when he came in he completely lost it, to be expected. Jake was on the couch when I came running in and asked him if it was bad and he shook his head. His finger was covered with a towel and when Jon dropped his finger on the counter....it was bad.
It was a clean cut but they didn't sew it back on. Jake has a great attitude about everything, keeping positive and ready to move forward when his finger heals proper.
Things happened so fast hard to realize what has happened almost until you read the above.
We waited 45 minutes before Jake got in to surgery and staring at the above allowed for "things" to sink in.
Accidents happen all the time and there are countless stories of people who have had things happen of similar nature and once it heals, back in action. Something like this makes you realize how things can change quickly and how appreciative, blessed and thankful we should be for each moment. Jake will come back stronger and tougher as ever, not affecting anything he has done in the past. It's just been a few hard days to comprehend everything and adapt to the change. The phrase of the day is making uncomfortable situations, comfortable. The kids mean everything to Jonell and I and seeing them hurt is tough.
Jon had been asked to play for a team that was short for tourney in Alex. They won their first two games on Friday and had a bye on Saturday. Not sure if we were going to make it back on Sunday for the semifinal and 3rd place or championship after what happened Saturday but he wanted to and Jake just wanted everyone to not think what happened was a big deal. Jon played with passion, scoring the first goal, the tying goal and the netting the hat trick for the game winner in OT. Got the game puck and said it was for Jake.

Hang in there Jake. This setback will only make you stronger and lighter. My missing part has long been forgotten and soon everything will nestle right into that hand like normal.
So sorry to hear about the injury. Sounds like your spirits are good. Our thoughts are with you all. Heal quickly!
Ugh!
What a nasty situation, I'm sorry that it happened!
I know that I express this frequently in the comments here... but yours is truly an amazing family.
Good luck on the healing, for all of you.
Hopefully see you soon, before Maplelag MTB weekend.

Thanks for the comments and support. We appreciate it. The mountain bike community is awesome. Every day is getting better and Jake has been back on the bike a bit and roller skiing once.
Jake,
Heal up buddy. Knowing you, I am confident you will come out of this even stronger.
Jay,
It is tough to see them (kids) hurt, but as you noted, things like this make us appreciate the health and well being that we do have!
We hope to see you soon.
Jake and Richards Family,
Wow...Take care and my thoughts are with Jake, speedy recovery.
Jay,
It is hard to see our children hurt and when we live an active full life we have challenges. Jake has a good family to help him with his challenge.
Good Luck moving forward!
