Yesterday when I dropped Jon off at hockey school, I couldn't help but think that it was probably 80-90 degrees cooler in there versus Red Wing. Jon's running camp from 8am to 7:30pm. A full day for him. He should really learn a lot this week. Players from all over the country. Tretiak runs the goalie school which is pretty neat. Jonell bought him a new support strap (nut cup) and when Jake first saw it he thought they were bike shorts. Those would be good to wear at a race.
Day three of no riding. When you get caught up in the day to day stuff and don't worry about riding, I can't figure out how I find the time to train. I wasn't like I felt I needed a break now, in fact I feel the best I have since I started racing 16 or so years ago, just want to keep the motivation going and give my body a deserved break. Plus, after that heat race, it takes more time to recover than your body realizes. I can't put my finger why I have been feeling consistently good for over year other than I have gone about 14 months without taking any advil, asprin, haven't had to go on antibiotics, no allergy or cold medicine, nothing. Most of that stuff is just a band aid and I think in the long haul it does more harm than good. When I start training again, I am going to focus on the high end and try to avoid the long endurance rides. I will do a bit of base to get the legs back but will do a three week periodization, focusing on short and sweet.
Lots of time in the woods the past few days and if we had to run the bike race on the weekend, we would be set. SUnday I will ride the lap with all the new stuff to see if it is at around 55 min or so. Today had the boys out with the nephews and we found some good creepy crawly critters. Some good times.
