"Jens, what are you going to do with that?" "Nothing" Making a little whip cream for the pie tonight.
This morning Jonell and I snuck away for a beautiful ride leaving from Pinehurst. I called Jonell's dad to make sure we were good to go for him watching Jens. When I talked to him he was telling me a route he did in his jeep. So when we get there he explained it to me again and he said I should try something different since I had been hitting the Bass Lake rd and Sawmill lake roads pretty hard previewing the Tour De Resort route. So we did everything he explained. Tibbets trail, Norris Trail, cross Strawberry mountain rd, until Height of Land trail. We were making good time and I said lets go down the McKenzie trail because it looked way too fun and Jonell was up for it. Nice big rollers totally engulfed in mixed hardwoods and pines and the leaves are about 5-7 days from their peak. We came to the end of that, turned around and went south again on Height of Land before picking up the Sawmill lake trail and riding the last 7-8 miles of the Resort route. We rode about 45 min at race pace so we were hitting 35+ plus on those hills ......was a rush. About a 2 hour ride which was a bit more than planned but all good. I figured we did at least 30 and maybe 35? Wow. These trails in the White Earth State Forest are perfect tandem riding. And, the more I was thinking about it, it would be a lot easier to do a point to point from Pinehurst and would be all forest road/4 wheeler/snowmobile stuff. I checked out the maps on this link and you could run pretty far east before heading south and making a nice 40-50 mile loop. Anyways, a gorgeous day. Between you and me, (as Pat Lemieux would say,) it ranks as one of the best rides ever in 16 years. Like I keep on saying, the tandem has been way more than I expected. Jens and Grandpa followed us for a short while in the Jeep, like our own litte sag before doing their own route. Next post: top 15-20 predictions for Cheq. 40!
