Wow, what a great day of ski racing at Buena Vista and the Bemdji Pursuits. The pursuit races are always fun to watch. Battles up and down the entire field. And always fun to talk to the coaches about waxing and grooming and snow science.

On the classic race I was 4-6 inches from the side of the trail on the last downhil to catch the action. At state people would yell at you to get off the trail but the skiers all passed by today, some smiling, and no worries. When I go to Jon's hockey games I get all worked up because I can't do anything. Ski meets are great because I can ski the course and move around on the boards during the race while I wait for the skiers to come back.

Once again Jake had a awesome skate race to move up from 5th to 4th. He had the top skate time on the day which is crazy considering close to 90% of his workouts are on classic skis. Probably makes him a better skater. All the Norwegians I ever talked to say 70-80% of your ski workouts should be classic. If Birkie skate lifies would mix in some classic, they would probably get the wave upgrade they have been shooting for. Whatever, on skis, just ski, all good.

On the way home I noticed the town of Bemidji has been dumping excess snow in between hiway 2. When I lived up in Moorhead, I would spend hours riding on piles like this one there was some melt freeze action because the piles have a mixture of salt and sand and the way it melts down leaves a surface like that found in Moab and the slickrock trail. Good training, good fun.

"If Birkie skate lifies would mix in some classic, they would probably get the wave upgrade they have been shooting for."-- is that why Dan is always harassing me to put on my classic skis and stop skating? :) -Nikki

Ha! I am sure he has a pair of skis you can use as well!

He's been on me about buying a better pair of classic skis too... (apparently the Fischer SC's that I picked up for maybe $99 last year won't cut it in Norway). But it's so hard to put them on when there are days like today that are made for skating! :)
