Friday late morning we headed east to Wisconsin for the WORS Stage race. First we stopped at Menaga to pick up Jack at bible camp where he had been for the week.
I told the other kids be prepared to sing camp songs all the way to Wisco because Jack had them fresh in his mind. Jack did not disappoint. Quality songs so it was all good. We stayed north going to Duluth than dropping south and east which made for a bit longer trip (12 hour car time one way) but nice to be off the interstate. Stopped in Superior and I took Jack to the Richard Bong WW2 memorial museum while Jonell and the other kids ran around in the playground, enjoying 55 degree temps. Back in the car it got hot. Jens was responsible and he said "I wanted to have it at Crosby's number" Got in the Malkin range and much better. Lots of other silliness etc. which was to be expected. We just don't do good bottled up like that for that amount of time.
Saturday was the xc. Five laps on tap for me and four for Jake. Jake had a pretty nice race among the jrs, finishing 2nd overall and first in his age group. Still a pretty long race near 2 hours. Good training and picked up some National points. (Photo above from Bob Callaway. WI rider that comes to Maplelag for the bike race. First came 4 years back because race was located near town with his last name. Good stuff)
Super fun course. Dried out nicely from rain earlier in the week and was in pretty much perfect condition. Nice mix of climbing, singletrack, some open WORS singletrack and fun descending. Ideal course for the hardtail. Talked to Tristan after the race and he said it was the bike of choice for sure. Was hot though and not used to riding in those temps and humidity. But everyone was in the same boat and usually I like racing in the heat. Yippity yap.
The JR races were at 6:30 and Jon was first to go. Jack opted out after not riding all week and was happy just running around checking things out etc. Jon was at the back, pretty much chill and then moved his way up nicely before crashing a few times than put it in cruise and all good.
Finishing up.
Jens was last to head off and running the Redline mini Lalonde style minus some wheel diameter.
Jonell cheering on.
Jens finishing up. The most drama is in the Kids races. Parents running around with cameras and the kids scoping out the other kids 2 hours before the start drinking more water than the Elites.
Things didn't go so well for me in the XC. After one lap I knew things weren't running right and did one more lap and pulled the plug. In 19 years of racing, I have only dnf'd in one other race. Most races if things are off, I will still slug it out and finish but after 19 years, you know when to push it and not and just felt like the smart thing was to call it. The past week or so something hasn't been right so going in to get the blood checked out etc. Being in the woods all the time and lymes disease, west nile etc. floating around you never know. Sunday we did the Super D which was a good time. Not good position going in to the woods but still fun racing. Jon was cruising along nicely than got side swiped by some guy running hot and got a pretty nasty bruise. If two guys start a fight in the street, the cops will come. In hockey the refs will let guys fight but call penalites etc. In bike racing, things get nasty sometimes but no ref to penalize. Part of racing and thats how it goes. Anyways, With ST races delayed and not wanted to get home at 3am, we rolled out and made it home around midnight.
Lots of cranes in the area.
Scored the Shamwow for Fathers day. Click on the photo to see all the different uses. (and the link for the infomercial..good stuff) I have only used it a few times but the best part is saying "wow". Looking forward to using it for bike cleaning. Thinking it should work nicely. Maybe if it works real good we can get the Maplelag logo put on and sell in the gift shop.

I miss Jen's Green Crocks, is he getting all serious and stuff?
Definitely. Was doing laps around the house this evening while everyone else was trying to chill. But it was either the flaming flip flops or the sneakers and figured the sneakers would be safer.Crocs didn't get packed. He is looking forward to the Jail Trail. Perfect for the mini.
