Friday after school I picked up Jake and we went east to Cable for the Cable Off Road Classic with plans to head to Rhinelander for WORS #2 on Sunday. Entertainment on the trip over was watching a guy roll a trailer pulling a pontoon, going to hot on the AW GWAY BE CHENG corner or whatever the name is, before Walker. The look on the guys face was the best and I wasn't quick enough on the draw to shoot a pic.
Solid field for CAORC. Pretty much ideal racing. Was hard not racing but fun seeing everyone and taking pics etc. Brendan Moore at the front and staying there and on course the whole way for the win. Nice job.
Not sure if Jake was dropping the stink bombs like he was on the way home but these dudes were reaching for their noses so I wouldn't be surprised.
One of the key things in this race if you want to be in the front is to be in the front before the pack hits the singletrack. But most people racing this race just enjoy hitting the track and being out in the woods.Maplelag team member Sam Oftedahl rolling across in second. Good hustle SamO.
Jake in the sprint for 25th. Solid effort for early season and had fun so all good.
Post race with 2010 Olympian Garrott Kuzzy, and Jack Hinkens. Jake did a cool down with them and river soaking of the legs. We opted out of heading to Rhinelander thinking about the 8 hour drive home on Sunday and Jake was a bit under the weather and didn't want to risk getting buried early in the season and spend two weeks digging out.
Friday right before we left got a call from the Fargo Force coach asking if Jon wanted to play in a tourney in Fargo over the weekend. I knew Jon would be stoked to play because the day before he was going stir crazy wanting to skate. Playing hockey in the Spring/Summer is kinda crazy but so is rollerskiing in the summer, biking in the winter and swimming in the winter, if you catch my drift. Jonell open to cover the tourney and picked Jon up after school and headed west. Jonell had wedding stuff on Saturday so Jon spent the night with one of the kids he plays with from Moorhead.
The team was all Fargo players plus three kids from Moorhead, one Grand Forks kid and Jon. the MN boys led the team, scoring 90% of the goals en route to an undefeated weekend and the title in the Championship game. We all went up for Sunday's games and Jake rode back to Maplelag from FM.
Jack, Jens and Jon with his Moorhead buddy, Jake "Odee" Odegard. I don't like to talk about individual efforts of kids this age cuz things can change between now and high school etc. but Odee is probably the most dominant 97er I have seen this season. Obviously has the size at 6' but the skills as well. I think he had 15 goals on the weekend and wouldn't be surprised to see him playing varsity in two years.
