First year band for Jack kicked off the summer activities. If you want to play band, you start in the summer.

Blowing the baritone nicely.

So nice the trumpeter swans came a flyin'
Last weekend the boys spent most of the Holiday weekend up at the lake cabin with Jonell's brother and cousins since we had a full wedding weekend at the resort. Ryan brought some fresh walleye fillets when he dropped the kids off and we fried them up that night and made fish tacos. My opinion on cooking fresh fresh is to just lightly dust it with flour and pan fry it in a cast iron skillet with grape seed oil. Season after pulling it out, doesn't get any better. Pretty lucky to get fresh fish without having to fish. Thanks Ryan.
Cat caught a chipmunk. The dogs have spent countless hours chasing chipmunks and no such luck. Cats unfortunately kill a lot of birds. The yoda dog has backed off on the cat now that the cat has learned her ways. Cat also managed to get porcupine quills in its butt/tail. Held the cat down and Jonell pulled them out.
The boys have been good about doing chores now that school is out. Jens has been push mowing like a wild man. Jon and Jack even helped out with housekeeping today. You have to love housekeeping to make it in the resort business. If not, don't get in.
We have been working on the singletrack on the bike course here and there, improving the flow. Mainly cutting out the shoulder busters and building up some berms. Leaving rocks and roots as is. There should be no excuse for record times in the tt this year unless we have a mudder!!
Riders have been hitting the bike course almost daily which is great to see. The trend this year seems to be people are liking the roots, rocks and mud. Nice! We still don't charge to use the trails even though all trail work etc. comes out of our own pocket and no assistance from any organization etc. Aric and Margot Hareland stopped by today for a few laps and hit the new singletrack to the west. His parents' have a cabin near Vergas. Aric is plannning on racing a bit more mtb this year which is very cool and hopes to be back for the Loppet.
Finally made it out to the mountain for the first time this year. Its all pretty much sand so once the snow melts its pretty much good to go and a nice place to go for early season training but we never got out there this Spring. Since starting mtbing 20 years ago, every year living in MN has seen hill work a plenty at the mountain. Back in the Team Zizi years, we got permission ride and build some trail and would host time trials. The way the woods and soil are, it would be super easy to build some sweet trail. There are 4 or so different options for climbing with one climb around 8 minutes from low point on the gravel road up to the top. There are two climbs that are harder than anything we see on the MN circuit making no faking when you ride. Good training for sure. The mountain is closed now and best to ask about riding out there.
