I didn't know much about the new Cuyuna mountain bike trail until last summer Dan and Doug Swanson tweeted some photos of this crazy track they were working on and Dan sent a report in October for the mtb report. I put in on the list to hit this Spring as soon as things opened up. It was closed up until last week, unless you helped work on the trail and a pass was granted. Last week they opened up the Inset B unit which was about 14 miles of trail. Looking at the calendar and the busy schedule on tap for the summer, I knew this week was the time to go. We went over Wed morning and rode everything that was open and hitting the really fun stuff a couple of times. I will be doing a full report with more photos in next weeks mtb report on skinnyski but here are a few highlights.
There are berms everywhere. Its like a jacked up mountain bike trail with dirt jump, pump track features. It's totally different than what we ride here at and around Maplelag but super fun stuff.
A few bridges scattered here and there. Most of the time I was following Jake's wheel and he was hitting everything with no hesitation but the trail is so well built there are no worries what follows.
If you let things go on the downhill, you catch a little air without doing anything. Someone like Jake catches a lot of air and a couple times he was inches away from clipping a sapling but of course no big deal to him. The hardtails were perfect as there isn't anything real technical and it is all hard packed and powerbuffed.
More berm action.
Lot of great views at the top. The last downhill was so much fun. We went down the same way we came up and I wondered why there were these berms coming up but going down, we realized why. Mix in some continuous pumping, a bluebird day and perfect temps, couldn't of been a better day. Hope to get back there when everything opens up. Thinking a cool September day would be nice.
