This week when I was writing the Midwest MTB report, I noticed the long time mtb classic Thunderdown in the Underdown was taking place this weekend. I ran down to the t-shirt closet and amazingly found the shirt from 1991 when Jonell and I went there.
This race holds good memories as it was the first race Jonell ever went to with me. Before I picked her up, it was also the first time her parents met me. I am sure they thought they were never going to see her again as I had the bandanna thing going and rolled over in a "rez rocket" explaining the roads I took to get to Park Rapids from Maplelag and Jonell's day saying "you don't know what the hell you are talking about" It's all good because things turned out totally awesome. I hope to return to Irma one day.
I looked for results from the race but couldn't find any. So instead I posted results from the High Plains shootout (which I don't have a shirt from) and again enjoy looking at the names. (click on the photo for better viewing) I was going to school at Concordia at the the time, hence the hometown Moorhead. Probably the most interesting to me is my friend Scott Olson from DL who went over with me for the race and always some good times when Scott moving the wheels.
If you think I will part with my signed letter from Dag Selander, forget it.

Jay, I dig your archive collections, Awesome!
The Thunderdown was always one of my favorites. I think I won the sport class in 1991.
