Jon was invited to play in the Midwest Selects tournament last weekend so we were at Fogarty in Blaine. The south arena has a electric zamboni which you don't see to often. It works pretty slick except for when the boom that feeds the electrical gets hung up. Wasn't a bad thing as it allowed the ice to bone up in the afternoon when it was humid outside. Jon had fun, gained some confidence with his shot and excited for remaining tourneys this summer which will see some good competition.
Jake, Jack, Jens and I caught the first half of the Sunday morning game than went up to Duluth for the Great Hawk Chase at Lester Park. Jake had a more normal week and back up in the front like he has been this season. The week before Elk River he started up some intense dryland for xc skiing and roller skied hard on Friday with Jon when normally he would take the day off. He still raced at Elk River giving it a go but just didn't "have it" and played smart pulling out. Duluth: course at Lester is awesome. Have ridden there twice but never raced. Conditions turned out perfect and those thinking it was going to be muddy shouldn't worry about mud. Just race. Was itching too after catching the action but had fun watching one of the more exciting races I can remember as racing was tight in the 3rd to 10th spots. Jake racing with Scott Kylander Johnson above. You can't tell but halfway in race or so, Scotty went down hard and dislocated/separated his shoulder and was in serious pain. Toughed it out to still pull off a top 7.
Barry Tungseth is rolling really strong right now and looked very smooth out there. One of the few riders to keep it clean on the day and rode smart. Todd McFadden chases Barry at this point still able to uncork a top five at age 47. Nicely done!

My sister, Uncle Dan and her boys came down from the "Falls" to watch and nice they did that. My dad also came up with foreign student Kira from Macedonia who is working at Maplelag this summer. Thanks to my mom for holding down the fort making sure campers didn't bring canoes in to the lodge and pet killing critter patrol.

The Lester river was raging good and didn't take long for Jens and Jack to hit the water. Jens going off above. Thanks to Meredith for keeping eye early. Sad news found out later in day boy earlier in week was up stream and disappeared and found in lake Superior on Sunday.
Peter wasn't around in above photo with cousins but caught him jumping in the river.
Jack.

Hockey in the morning, river jumping in the afternoon. Jon and Jonell came up after his game to catch Jakes race as it started.

Expert awards. Scott used his one avail finger to hold his prize money and medal.

Party on!
