Winding Down Cranking Up

Summer is winding down fast. Lake loving locals are wondering where August heat is. We might get a shot of hot here the end of the month but the first half of this month has been great for working and biking in the woods. For our farmer friends, I do hope and pray they get the rain and temps they need. Locally, a shot or two of rain would be nice to perk up the greenery. Always seems to be the scenario this time of year so nothing we haven't been through before.

A lot has happened since the last post and to cover it all I could not remember as Jonell as wiped free the erase board calendar that now projects activities in to October! Some photos posted from an blog post attempt earlier.

Jens and I trekked to the Wadena area for a low key mountain bike race a few weekends ago. Fun old school course and racing. Full report on the skinnyski report. Bummer not more MN NW folks but a lot on the table for everyone to get it all in.

Had seriously considered going to River Falls to race in the Minnesota Series race on Sunday but Saturday racing was a nice racing fix and with the weather as good as it gets, opted to spend one last weekend with the family at the cabin to the north. Of course a couple rides to enjoy the endless White Earth State Forest roads including a ride with Jon around south twin lake. Forest rally next weekend. One year Travis Pastrana made an appearance.
The smaller lakes don't see much action and a couple remind me of high alpine lakes in MT.

Jon and I have been riding 2-3 times a week and he is finally back on the mountain bike after getting hip checked by a master blaster in the Super D at the WORS Cup 4-5 years ago.
The baby is growing up fast.
Instagram blanket.
Jonell and I snuck away for a evening to catch Dwight Yoakam at the Bluestem venue just south of Moorhead. It was a beautiful evening and just the right size complex to catch a live event outdoor. It would have to take a well liked artist to get us back to We Fest which was the following three days. Keeping an eye on their calendar to try and get up there one more time.

Jack riding the singletrack on a rare drizzly day. Cross country has started for Jack with 8am practice!

Jake had a great trip in Germany, taking in the sights and sounds and logging some serious laps in the ski tunnel. Skiing with a bunch of good people makes things a bit easier.
Jens and I have fished more this summer than any other I can remember. Either off the dock or from the canoe. Out with David last weekend. Calm waters making for easier propulsion from the front!

With temps dropping down to the lower 40's most nights, the water temps are dropping as well and the bass have been lively off the weed beds.
My Aunt Ginger and Uncle Stan from the Big Apple visiting last weekend along with my sister and her boys. Good Sunday afternoon bbq and games on the deck. Fun stuff.
