Jake is running track this spring for the first time. He has ran a bit in previous falls as part of training for xc skiing but not the intensity like it is now. He will probably be running more next fall for xc training when off at college, so its good for building the running base. The intensity is working the high end nicely. Plus, the girlfriend is running track so why not? Jess is fast and dominates.
The most recent meet was in Bemidji. Bemidji is always a nice town to catch kid's events because the drive from here to there is one of the best in the state. There are 3-4 different ways you can go. The high school/hockey arena is located on the west side of town making the Becida route the preferred choice. This route you cross the Mississippi at least four times, beautiful country along the way. I went up a little bit earlier to ride at Movil Maze. Was using the singlespeed 29er and a perfect bike for the track there.
The "old man"
The newly painted fire truck for the Itasca Volunteer dept. sticking out nicely. Stopped to talk to the guy who was on prescribed burn. Said the truck came from the Korean war.
Some of the open fields near Becida are loaded with deer at dusk.
Saturday Jon had two games in Alex vs two other advanced 15 district teams for seeding for the spring festival this weekend. It is a bit complicated to explain the whole process. If interested, click on this link. Ultimately it gets narrowed down to 20 players in the state that compete in Rochester, NY. The hockey is top notch and some good games to watch.
Somehow it worked out Jens had practice after Jon's games which was very convenient. Jon joined in and fun watching the two together on the ice.
Roller hockey on the court to keep it moving in between ice time. Ideas have been tossed around to put a year round rink at Maplelag. It wouldn't be a bad one considering the travel and could run hockey camps and tourneys....
Sunday Jack converted a poplar sapling to a spear.
Putting it to test.
Sunday morning a group of riders from Fargo out to ride including team members Steve Wenzel (said it was Maplelag church) and Matt Engen. Fun to ride with them as long as I could before bolting out to attend Lund church!
