Good times at Snowflake yesterday. After a morning ski on the trails here, we rolled out about 8am and high tailed it. Along the way we saw a hitchhiker. I told Jonell we should pick him up and see how long it would take for him to ask to get out of the car. Yikes, it has been a while since we took all the kids on a long trip. Good practice i guess before we head out to Big Sky for Easter.

The race was a continuous pursuit with a 10min break (or modified Iditarod as Dave called it). When we pulled into the parking lot there were some serious ringers that stacked the field. But that was just fine by me as it is always nice to have more skiers to rate yourself against. I basically had no warmup and thought I would just ease into it the first k or so then crank things up. About 2k in I started to catch some skiers including Aaron Nistler and Nikolai Anikin. I don't think Nikolai was skiing all out because he should of smoked me. I did feel good but not that good. He was on some Rossi crowns I think and they were a bit draggy. I put some red klister on right before the start and it worked great. The night before I ran 2mm rills on my cold rcs classics and I think that helped as well. I waxed with some old cera wax I had that was rated for 38 degrees and old corn snow. Bottom line, my skis were pretty fast.

After the classic race. We had a ten minute break and I knew the best thing to do was to get in the skate gear asap as Jens wanted to play. I told him 15 more minutes and I would be back. Well, sure enough he fell in the mud and fell apart, if you know what I mean. I picked him out of the mud sure enough I had mud all over. Jack says, "dad, you spilt coffe on yourself". Nope, its mud. Good luck he says. So I was off, Jonell came to the rescue. I started out pretty hard for the skate as I was gunning for the Kueffers in front of me but I actually got caught by John Swain. I skied behind him for a k or so then I opened it up and caught another skier and held off those behind me. I thought for sure Nikolai was going to catch me as I figured his skates skis were going to be faster but he never did. All in all it was some great fun and I felt pretty strong. I try to ski hard a couple times of week to keep on top of it.

After the race Jens, Jack and Jon did kid races. They all did great. After that we messed around on the sledding hill. They had a little jump and I took Jens off of it. The weather was perfect and tons of sunshine to go around. I saw smiling Charlie Farrow. The nicest guy in Duluth for sure. We talked a little atb. I told him no miles under my belt and he said he was all miles and no ski because of his heel or something. Bummer. I still am dragging my feet. On days like today when it is damp and cool, I rather be out skiing. I did go out this morning and did a couple laps on skaters and north loup. There still is lots of snow on North. I am sure at least a week and maybe 10 days of skiiing there. Later this week I might start riding. I have the time so now is the time to crank out the base miles. I feel good where I am at on the intensity so its just getting the ride miles in and a couple of intensity sessions to keep the form rolling along.

Anyways, this afternoon I put the blade on the Pisten Bully and pushed a bunch of snow in the back bowl. Jake said we should try and build a big gap jump so when the kids get home from school we will go over with some shovels and fine tune it. I'll post some photos later in the week after we tweak it and Jake launches off of it. Should be crazy and fun. Posted by Picasa
