Today was the first full day of no guests at Maplelag since December 2nd so decided to do a long ski. I did this crazy crust cruise tour to Detroit Lakes. It was a lot of fun. There were some sections I didn't know which way to go but it all flowed really nice. The coolest parts were going down to Buffalo lake and Floyd lake. I filed a report on skinnyski. Scroll down to NW Minnesota and there are some more photos. Along the way there were some areas that would be very cool for jibskating. There was a section near the gravel pit that had a small avalanche which I thought was way cool for MN. I don't think I can ever remember a season of so much crust cruising in MN. When we lived in MT pretty much all of April and the first part of May (and longer if you went higher up) was good crust cruising. I have done some fun crust cruising in West Yellowstone and in National Parks in Norway on some of the highest peaks but this ranked right up there with them all. I didn't have any food or gels with me so I got a little bonky at the end. The total ski was about 3.5 hrs and I think I skied close to 25 miles.
Tomorrow the second batch of Kindergartners are coming. Some good fun on Wed. Tomorrow night I might take Jake and Jon to the West Regional games at the Ralph. MN plays Holy Cross and UND play MI. Should be some good games. Jake has all city band so we have to work around that. Sun is my birthday and I think the whole family might to to the funny town of Duluth and ski the pursuit at the Flake. Well see. Jonell bought me a kayak for my birthday. Should be some fun this spring when the water gets flowing. The Ottertail from Rochert to 34 and beyond is calling my name!
