Still have a subscription to Hungry Horse News Either the news is about Glacier Park or Bears. Some good reads and photos. The last issue I got had a article about this guy running for county commissoner.
Classic NW Montana. You have the pure locals, a mix of the loggers/hunters./trappers want to live off the land, transplanted ski bums that call themselves locals, the rich and famous that make the real estate go crazy and the employees of the ski resorts that don't live any where near the ski resorts and the outdoorsy folks that don't seem to have jobs but somehow have enough money to live out there and do all the rec activities but don't work. Oh, and the folks that are anti-government, unabomber material. We were hoping to go out to Essex for Larry and Lyndas sending off party as they sold the hotel (Izaak Walton Inn). It was a great three years living there. At least once or twice during the summer I would do the higline ride which was about a 130 mile ride through Glacier Park and Going to the sun road. I think the total climbing was around 7000ft but it was just beautiful riding. We might try to go out there this summer, be fun to try the ride again. I always lucked out on the weather when I did it. The scariest thing was the time I almost t-boned a grizzly bear.
Today was collect logs and stockpile them day. My dad has been "thinning" this spring and he probably had about 20 logs I gathered off the trails and grounds. One tree was hung up so I had to climb up the tree, put a chain around it and try to pull it down with the Bobcat but I couldn't get enough traction. I did loosen it enough so he can get a better cut. Then there was a birch we chained up and I was digging a hole to China to keep the tension while he was cutting so it would fall on the ski trail and not back in the woods on some other trees....than it broke free and the tree was falling right towards me but no worries as the chain/cable was long enough to make the clear but still pretty crazy having this monster birch come right at ya and than boom, hits the ground and the top shatters. Also today, Jack lost his front tooth. I thought I posted a photo but it seems to got lost. He said he put his head under water in the bath, shook his head and did a motorcycle sound. Thunder burgers at Ice Cracking tonight. Some guys would probably be waiving the flag for the sick bucket I am sure, but a half pound burger with the fixings sits just fine with me and I will be up with the birds in the am ready for some 1 minute lung and gut busters.
