This basswood had been taken down by another basswood. The way it was curled over it looked like there could be quite a bit of preload but the spring back factor wasn't too bad once I made the cuts. My dad got launched 30 ft in the air when they first moved here, cutting a tangled mess and ended up with a broken leg and bed time in the middle of the winter. For one, I just don't like basswood, the branches always seem to creep over the ski trails, they smell funny and if you use the wood for paneling it has that smell again and if used in a basement, they mold or color if you don't have a finish or preservative. They do provide some neat twists and bends on some of the more mature trees and in the winter the snow collects nicely.
Anyways, we are cutting one more section of singletrack. Last Sunday I did a lap race pace and the lap was just under 50 minutes and I want it to be more like 53ish so this should do it. Find out on Sunday.

Man, when is this going to stop. I am getting tired of answering questions from non cycling friends and family "well, did they do it"? Even though he could be cleared with the b sample, it raises doubt. Blah Blah Blah. Dang, and Matt Johnson scored me the cool BMC/Landis shirt. I just wanna wear it.

Rollag was good on Wed. I attacked all the hills since I don't care about the sprints, really. Makes for a good workout. Noticed i hit 198 mhr. Yikes. We'll see if i can't peg 200 next time. Sam and I had some discussion last weekend about riding road bike and what not but I have a hard time finding a workout that will push my heart rate up there like Rollag. Yesterday I rode to DL and did a hour of climbing at DM and could barely get it over 180. Seems like the benefits from the Rollag ride are reaped 1 week or 10 days after. Sometime I want to try and do it on the mountain bike. Have a good weekend. Posted by Picasa

Sam rode close to 100 miles yesterday on his mtb in this heat down to hastings and back.I opted for only 50-60 miles with the Dos Niner.I put some cross tires on it for the road.Very nice.
Have you tried a stihl 066?Some tree trimmers brought one over when we had the tornado come through and they let me try it out.I was only 14 handling that beast of a saw.It cut those 100 year oaks like butter though.

No I haven't tried the 066.Someone else said they were pretty slick. They don't stock them at our Stihl dealer in town. I have been looking for attachment to run off the bobcat but Ingersoll-Rand won't run one in production because of the liability. BNSF has some sweet rigs they run on the tracks to clear limbs I have noticed and some farmers and what not have done some home jobbies that look pretty cool.

I did 70 yesterday in middle of day and it was fine. Three frozen waterbottles saved the day. Did hour racepace on road early this morning before church thinking it would be cooler and was going to do a lap plus on the Loppet course at rp but after 15 minutes I called it. I was doing more harm than good my body said. Not enough recovery after yesterday.
