Went up to the new White Earth Community Center with mom, dad and Jonell, catching the last part of the benefit for Joe Bush before Jonell and I snuck out for a 24 hour birthday getaway. (Thanks Mom and Dad.) Joe is probably one of the most respected individuals on the reservation. Pretty much every event, Joe is there with his peace pipe, saying a prayer for the opening. Joe has been out to Maplelag many times and we always enjoy having him. Super friendly, easy to laugh and has done much good for a lot of people. One of the first times he was here at the resort, I was in the back of the conference room making sure everything was set and he called me up to the front to participate in the peace ceremony. Caught me a bit off guard but wasn't something you say no to.

The new community center is next to the new pow wow grounds. I haven't been to the White Earth Pow Wow in maybe 10 years. I think the White Earth Pow Wow had its 140th in June which has to be one of the oldest events in Minnesota. Real nice setup they have now. The past 8 years has seen a lot of change in community of White Earth. A new health center, new head start building, new emt/emergency building, new c-store, new Sr housing and this Fall they completed a new Tribal Council/Administration building that is state of the art. Next on tap is a new school for the Circle of Life school. The past two years we have hosted the awards program. I went to head start/pre-school in White Earth. Had some interesting bus rides. My teacher made a cookbook for us at the end of the year and one of the recipes was Native American Fry bread. We use that same recipe today for the Maplelag fry bread.

The AT is a good read for keeping up to date on local happenings.

Introduced Jon to an alternative form of wax for the stick. I have used it in the past on my own. Looking forward to trying some different colors to see if any difference. Ha! With the changes at Swix, maybe they should make a stick specific wax!
