What's summer without some baseball.
Jake is the only one out of the four boys that played organized baseball. Too much sitting around for us. Instead, the boys play in the back yard, different rules sometimes only two bases, moving all the time. Like I said before, if they can get through a game without injury and crying, too me this is more more valuable than a playing on a organized team.

Jonell spent a good chunk of the weekend setting up the Callaway Event center for the wedding of our head cook Deb's daughter. Saturday after the ceremony at Maplelag, we went over for the reception. After clearing everything out we packed up the car at 2am for early departure at 7:30am for mountain bike meet at Mon Du Lac.
Big time rain leading up to the event made for some beautiful mud.
I told Jake just take it easy, stay patient and get into a rhythm. Pretty much typical riding conditions in our back yard during the Spring. We did ride on Maplelag course during the week when it was raining but with rider traffic light and a hardpack base, it wasn't really muddy, just a little slippery. Jake said there was guys getting frustrated, throwing their bike and wanting to dnf right after the first mud section which I expected. It's tough racing for sure and nice job to everyone that started and managed to finish. Its not about the result, its crossing the line and proud of Jake for having a good attitude, having fun and a great ride along the way.
Although it was hard not racing in what are my favorite conditions, it was fun running around on the course with Jack and Jens watching the riders and Jack and Jens enjoyed exploring off the trail. I have pretty much decided to take this year off from racing and let the immune system right it self and hopefully clear out the Lyme. At times I feel like racing and go nuts but I haven't done the base like I normally do and I rather error on not racing and hope for full recovery from Lyme vs getting stuck in a rut and buried. I have been in endurance sports plenty long to see too many people push it when the body isn't ready and never recover proper. Plenty on the plate as it is so all good. Plus, being at the races and seeing all the top notch people is a breath of fresh air.

Jens lost his shoes a few times in the peanut butterey mud.

Jack Hinkens high fiving on the climb up. Congrats on your first win. Jack brought home some course tape and race sign from his training camp in Switzerland and very impressed he managed to score these items and go through the hassle bringing them back. Thanks man.
Chris Fisher wearing the MDL threads from 2000.
Moore bros flashing some serious skin.
Having the whole family along is always a good time and the trip to Duluth was no exception. Jack had a "weird but funny experience" with the Vietnamese cook from Taste of Saigon that left us all rolling. We stopped at Leech Lake near Walker on the way home and of course Jens fell in with all his clothes on. Good times.

Hard for me to imagine riding in gumbo like that. Hats off to those who can! And - what a chore it must be to clean up the bike afterward.

We are planning on the Cup Devin. See you there? Thanks for the comment Jerry. Jake's bike cleaned up pretty good and all the parts seem to be in good working order. New chain and brake pads replaced for sure.
