Wow, what a gorgeous day. Been waiting for a string of days like this since, like, what, mid May or something. Not a real hot summer, only 3 days I think 90 or above but high dew points and humidity. Might hit 40's tonight. Awesome. God created deer flies and humidity so we could appreciate days like today.
Camp wrapped up last weekend. Two weeks earlier than usual. Went out with Tavo and Javier, camp leaders, for end of summer toast.Missed Jake and Jack. Jake in CO with Wenzels kicks for a sweet mountain bike trip and Jack at bible camp. Was nice for Jake to just ride and not worry about any racing. Lost 7 pounds on the trip and looking Schleckish. Always would happen to me at high altitude you would have the Hershey squirts the whole time and stuff just goes right through....Anyways,
Sunday Jon had practice in Bemidji with CanAm select team he is playing with in a few weeks so I went out to Movil Maze Nord area to check out the new bermy and wormy. Just a short section has been completed but a beautiful morning to be in the woods and had fun bushwhacking through the forest as the strong nw wind blew through the Norways and riding the completed trail back and forth a bunch of times. When I worked in Bemidji at the Language Camps, I did a lot of riding out at Movil. (Great place to xc ski to, tops in Bemidge imo.) The days would be long working and many rides ended up in to the dark and saw some good wild life out there riding up on bear, porcupines, skunks and got paced by a timber wolf one night and on coming car scared it off nicely.
The bermy.
The wormy.
Rock section.
Wheel barrow most likely to make berm. Filled with about 10" of water which has fallen in a months time.
At first I thought the trail was being built by a mini track hoe with the wide path on the sides but at the end of the singletrack it looked like the person making the trail went through with a brush hog.....
And finished off with the tools of the trade. Great job to the builder. Very articulate and manicured. Building the trail IMBAisque and how he wants.
Mosquito protection action.
Sunday night Jack's 11th birthday party with friends for the overnight, staying in the tent outside. I thought Jonell and I were seasoned parents and have seen most kid type situations but these kids kicked our butt. It took some adjustments than it was all good. Almost had to text uncle TJ and fly up Tante Val for re-reinforcements. Wow.
Jack Richards and his friends holding up World Cup banner from Jack Hinkens who sent some course marking goodies from Italia World Cup. Thanks very much Jack. We will use the banners, signs and course tape from Swiss Racer Cup for Laddies Loppet weekend. Big Congrats to Jack on World Championship team selection. I talked to Jack on Sunday and look for comments in Wednesday's skinnyski report.
