With hockey starting the day of last post and groups and weddings along the way, it has been non stop. All good. Kids did have five days off for MEA which really went by quick.

Jonell had her birthday on Friday and last night we were all out to celebrate.
Jonell was working 18 hours on her birthday, making sure another wedding weekend at Maplelag went off top notch and putting good use to an old wash tub with some beverage cooling action. Another great group of people including some fun people to talk to like Stan above. "Last time we had a October like this......are you ready for winter" Yes.
Starting to feel stronger each week on the bike, and able to put in some hard efforts and not totally feel it later. The trails have been perfect riding. I think yesterday was the last big hurrah with rain today and snow most likely to follow. Hopefully we get enough to ski Thursday morning before it melts off. For sure there will be some more days to ride but a couple of weeks, things will be getting close to shutting down.

Has to be one of the first MEAs we didn't get out hunting. Although we were pretty jammed to get out proper, the weather has just been too darn nice for duck hunting and not many birds around. Could be some northern birds coming down with the weather peeling off from Saskatchewan so hopefully can get out later in the week.

Growing up seemed like everyone was duck hunting over MEA. Kids coming up from the cities, duck boats all around town. You could buy guns, shells and decoys at Holiday gas station. MEA would always put you in a fever for hunting so the week after we would hit the Island in between big and little Detroit lake for some pre-school shooting. No way that would happen now. Four teenagers with guns near city limits.....! We would even hike in to the woods, dragging canoe and decoys, where people wouldn't think about going in now with out a atv and have parents make up excuse why we were late for school. But if you found the right slough and timed it right, swamp mallards would drop in like nothing else and an experience all hunters dream about.
