Last full day in West. The morning Jake met up with 2010 Olympian Garrott Kuzzy and skied 2.5hrs with him and a couple other CXCers. I went out a bit later and met up with Caitlin Compton and Brian Gregg, Awesome morning. Starting to feel a little bit like the days of old.
Compton and Gregg at top of hill 191. They came charging up the hill and asked if I wanted to join them. Ah, yah. Just doing sprints, easy ski in between so I could hang on. Super nice people. Fun watching them crank it up during the sprints. Super smooth technique.
Jake with Kuzzy. Dropped a note the night before asking to hook up with him. Like I said before, don't know many athletes that reach out like Garrott. Thanks!
Local keeping the wheels moving nicely on the snowpacked streets in town.
After the morning ski, I went over to Doug Edgerton's place. Doug is the master groomer of the Rendezvous system. Doug helped groom the Nordic venues in Salt Lake and this past winter in Vancouver for the Olympics. Doug is the mastermind behind the Ginzu groomer and West Yellowstone track systems. At Maplelag we have two rollers and 3 ginzus from Doug and he set up the front end renovator and c-bar for the Pisten Bully. I first met Doug 22 years ago when I was college and drove out solo to West for my first Thanksgiving camp and stayed with him and Maureen. The evenings were spent talking grooming and I was fascinated by it all. I see Doug and ski conferences and grooming clinics now and then and it always is good talking to him as he has knowledge and experience of grooming like no one else.
Finishing up on Deja Vu after a afternoon classic ski. Intervals early in the morning than on the road back home!
