Winter rolling in nicely this past week. A good shake of snow early, just in time for Thanksgiving for a white turkey.
First grooming of the year.
First "real" skiing of the year on the Maplelag trails.
Wednesday was a good day of grooming, logging maybe 60k, packing on the trails. Decided to pack out Lucky's Loype to end the day. After scooting across numerous ponds during the day, figured the small pond on Lucky's wouldn't be any problem. Got halfway across and fell through. Not good. Jumped off and water just about up to hips. Tried to gun it out but the sled was floating and nothing to get traction on. Tried pulling out but no way in those conditions. Decided best way to get out was with Pisten Bully. Decided to leave sno mo running, hoping for the best, expecting the worst. Wasn't totally keen on taking PB out of hibernatin with the low snow and pulling up dirt but sled had to come out. Ran back boots full of water. Pulled out fine, and amazingly the sled seemed to survive with no issue. Finished packing out Lucky's than ran high gear for 5 miles to make sure good to go than home to thaw out. Another 40k next few days and all good.
Any vehicle etc. getting stuck in the winter, the Bully always gets the job done except for school or charter buses. Semis, sometimes.
Thanksgiving day with family and friends. Forecasted weather and schedules kept our group smaller this year but a great day giving thanks and enjoying the day.
Plate of lutefisk making the table for the second year.
Turkey time.
Saturday Aldesman family coming down and hooked up with Bjorn and Bruce for a nice ski. Bjorn testing some new skis for the first time this season.
Sunday afternoon getting warmer and going out with Jack and Jens for a run on Sap Run. Jack going with the goal to ski each trail at least once this season. Jens loves to skate ski.
Striding with Jake later. Snow getting a bit soft and slow but beautiful day to be in the woods before heading in for Jon's second hockey game on the weekend. A nice win over Fargo Angels after losing to MHD the day before.
