With hockey and skiing on snow covered trails, still feeling very much like winter.
Jon played in the Super Series this past weekend with the PW Major North team. Caught Friday mornings game. The pace was a bit faster than last weekend. The North kids didn't fare well in the won loss column but finished out with a nice win and skated with all the teams.
The deep base underneath was firm and the fresh snow from Friday morning was bit slushy but fun stuff for carving on the open slopes. Hope to get back there before snow all gone for some go everywhere cruising.
Bike and boards on board just in case.
Jens had his first Summer hockey tourney in Thief River Falls. He played 3 of 4 games in the Ralph Engelstad in TRF. Have watched some HS section games and Jon has played there a couple times but an incredible facility for a high school team. There are no other teams above that play there.
Looking for the rink manager to get skates sharpened. The Euro roadies must of left before I got there.
Stop at Dee's Dinner for lunch in between games. Next to the arena, the next best thing in TRF. Jack enjoying the breakfast all day feature with a chocolate malt.
Jen's choice: grilled cheese and home made mashed with plenty gravy. Fantastic eats. A must stop if passing through TRF.
I was hoping to do some crust cruising Sat am. before games on Saturday. Cooled down to the 20's but hard to find any skiable snow so first ride of the year on the pavement. Home Sunday early afternoon to find good coverage on the trails.
Monday morning waking up to fresh snow, and a glazed goat ranch road allowing for easier access to North Loup and one more groom to the north.
After grooming North Loup and Skaters Waltz, went out for a ski with Denny Barry and Brian Murdoch. It was starting to slow down half way through the ski but unbelievable conditions for April 4th. Back out at dusk with Jake for a quick lap when trail glazing over to top off a day as good as it gets.
Sled in the Plymouth arena parking lot. Jon asked if this would work for grooming. This? Maybe for packing and getting wrapped around a tree.
After the morning game, back on the road to pick up Jack and Jens after school. Had 45 minutes so stopped at Mountain View ski area outside of Detroit Lakes to check out the trails. Not recently groomed but tons of snow and fun spring ski.The deep base underneath was firm and the fresh snow from Friday morning was bit slushy but fun stuff for carving on the open slopes. Hope to get back there before snow all gone for some go everywhere cruising.
